You provide the classroom and students, we'll provide the learning and fun!
Our science educators will come to your classroom with a presentation about genetics & an engaging activity for your students.

We can present several activities in your classroom:

  1. DNA extraction
Students get to mash a kiwi and use various reagents to extract DNA from the cells. Activity includes an introduction about DNA.
    (Grades 8 – 12, 30-40 min.)
  2. Beaker Babies: Star Crossings
A hands-on activity designed to explain inheritance from parent to child.
    (Grades 8-10, 30-40 min.)
  3. Multifactorial Inheritance
A presentation and hands-on activity designed to explain how physical diseases or traits are influenced by genetics and environment. An introduction to genomics and genomic lab technology can be included.
    (Grades 8-12, 30 min.)
  4. Mini CSI Mystery
Students do a DNA extraction, analyze fingerprints and DNA gel electrophoresis results to solve a mystery.
    (Grades 8-12, 1 hour to 1 hour 15 min.)

This introduces the concept of the DNA code. Students use the DNA codon table and coloured beads to make a bracelet of their name.
    (Grades 4-10, 20 min.)
  6. Edible DNA
Make a DNA double helix out of marshmallows or fruit and licorice.
    (Grades 4- 10, 20 min.)
