Northern Geneskool Volunteers

Volunteers posing for a picture after a great lunch and fun training session in September 2008.
Are you a UNBC student who:
  • Enjoys free food?
  • Wants teaching experience?
  • Is addicted to Tim Hortons?
  • Wants to travel around Northern BC?

AND, do you want to:

  • Volunteer for a great science research organization?
  • Network with UNBC faculty and community teachers?
  • Bring interesting science experiments into the classroom?
  • Receive a letter of recognition for volunteering?

Then, you are a great fit for Northern Geneskool!

Northern Geneskool recognizes that university students are busy, so volunteers are only asked to commit to one 2-hour training session and approximately 4-6 in-class visits or 1-2 day-long workshops per semester. You don’t even need to be majoring in science, though secondary students always enjoy meeting volunteers who are “real scientists”. Also of benefit is that Genome BC covers travel, accommodation, and meal costs for out-of-town Geneskool presentations, provides a $5.00 Tim Horton’s gift card for each in-class visit and/or day-long workshop (to a maximum of $25.00 of free coffee!), and a free lunch for in-class visits extending all day (maximum of $20.00).
