Instructor Profiles - Nicole Li

I am in my third year at UBC, where I am working on completing my Physics major and Math minor. I got warped into the world of science in grade 8 by an amazing science teacher, who reminded me of Bill Nye the Science Guy. After science caught my interest, I continued on and took chemistry, biology and physics in high school, and participated in the 2004 Greater Vancouver Regional Science Fair with my project “The Vacuum Slippers”. After first year at UBC, I decided to go into Physics for the love of finding out how things around me work. For electives at UBC in the past, I have taken biology related courses such as Atmospheric and Ocean Science and Basic Cell Biology. Outside of academics, I enjoy meeting new people through school clubs such as the UBC Dance Club and the UBC Beads and Crafts club.

Last summer, I volunteered for the UBC Physics and Astronomy Outreach and our Genome BC Geneskool. I have always been a visual learner and I enjoy working with my hands, so Geneskool was definitely a fun experience with its interactive activities and lab work! Geneskool is a great place to meet other students, who share the same interest in genetic science. I strongly encourage students who want to learn about genetics to join the program, because you will get experience you won’t be able to get from your textbooks!
