Outreach Programs

We offer a number of tools and resources to teachers and schools throughout BC, free of charge.  If you have any questions about these resources, please contact us at gened@genomebc.ca

Geneskool program
We come to you! During the academic year, we visit several communities throughout the province.
During a trip, we present an all-day workshop at a local post-secondary institution where students solve a mystery using PCR and gel electrophoresis. Your class can be CSI investigators!
We can also provide 1-3 hour classroom visits, allowing students to meet practicing scientists as well as try a hands-on activity that demonstrates a genomic concept.

Traveling Exhibits
Portable multimedia educational displays designed for use by educational groups, schools and community organizations to learn more about genomics, genetic disease and heredity.

Teacher Support

These workshops help you meet your genomics teaching needs. Whether you need assistance in setting up genomics activities for your students, require training on genomics equipment, or any other support to bring genomics to your classroom, we can help.

Success of our Programs
We have held workshops in Prince George, the Fraser Valley, the Okanagan, the Kootenays, Vancouver Island, North Vancouver, and Terracethroughout the province. We’ve enjoyed success as measured by enthusiastic responses from students, teachers and local campuses were enthusiastic. Through student questionnaires, we discovered that students thought genetics was more interesting and important to Canadian society after attending the workshop. They also found genetics less complicated and more important for themselves.
