Torah Kachur is currently a PhD student at the University of Alberta in Molecular Genetics and will be graduating in April 2008. Her work involves studying the biology of a protein called non‐muscle myosin and its roles in embryonic and germline development in the worm, C. elegans. Despite spending much of her time in the lab, Torah has expanded her scientific career to include volunteer work as a science communicator for programs such as WISEST (Women in Scholarship, Engineering, Science and Technology). After completing the Science Communications Program at the Banff Centre for the Arts in August 2007, Torah has continued pursuing a career in science communications through science writing and outreach activities. Her goal is to educate the public about the importance of basic research in
understanding the fundamental principles of the world we live in.
